Matt is a freelance journalist based in Boulder, Colorado. His writing covers a wide swath of his interests, including sport science, human-powered adventure and exploration, nutrition, evolution, and religion. A regular contributor to National Geographic and Outside magazine, his work also appears in The Atlantic, The New York Times, and Men’s Journal, among others.
Originally from New Hampshire, Matt spent seven years working at Microsoft as a software test engineer before leaving the tech world behind to run professionally in 2005. This adventure led him to coaching athletes to run extreme distances and writing a coaching column for a national magazine.
Humans learn through storytelling. Explaining the complicated science of sport ignited a desire in Matt to use journalism as a vehicle to explore ideas and cultivate knowledge, while bringing the stories that matter to the masses.
